I also had the chance to experience and watch the Perseid Meteor Shower at the Minaret Vista. And the winner trail was CONVICT LAKE.Ĭonvict Lake was beautiful! It is known for its fishing and the dramatic mountains that surround the lake. The lake, known to the Paiute Indians as Wutsunapa or Tuvaimawiye’e, was renamed after a dramatic shootout in September 1871 after a group of 29 men broke out of the state penitentiary in Carson City, Nevada. The hike around Convict Lake was 3 miles and very easy. Just perfect time to do another hike, a sunset hike. It was my first time at the Tuolumne Meadows and it was AWESOME!Īfter hiking Tuolumne Meadows, we continued our trip to Mammoth Lakes and arrived in the afternoon. Ohhhh and that water was so damn cold! My feet were frozen! haha. We had to find a slower current to cross the river. The adventure hike consists of rock climbing and river crossing because we didn’t want to go around to go on the other side. Since Tuolumne Meadows is on our way to Mammoth Lakes, we decided to do a quick hike. I guess since I don’t ski or snowboard, I didn’t know about it (just my excuse). It’s known for the Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain ski areas. Mammoth Lakes is a town in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains. There is a $15 per person and $30 per car fee to enter Death Valley National Park.Ĭheck the weather before going as floods and dust storms do occur.I have been to California for 12 years now and didn’t know Mammoth Lakes exist until this year.
Very rough roadways for 2-4 hours, so come with off-road ready vehicle (4 wheel drive with good clearance), spare tires, and plenty of water. The temperature of the pool varies between 94 to 105° degrees. There are 3 sections of hot springs, some of which have been turned into showers and tubs. Stay and camp overnight, bring long tent stakes if the desert winds pick up. The water is around 105° degrees near the source, and it cools down as it flows down into the pools, that are around 90° degrees.

These springs contain sulphur so be prepared for a bit of that smell.įorget the mud treatment at the spa, take a dip in the springs at Tecopa.Ī large pool that is knee deep and in mud (great for the skin and full of minerals). Take a visit to Santa Barbara and enjoy the Gaviota Hot Springs (also known as Las Cruces Hot Springs) that are just a quick drive (about 45 minutes) to the north in the scenic Las Padres National Forest. The second has a beautiful heart-shape and is slightly larger and much hotter. The first is about 11-feet wide and 3 feet deep with very comfortable warm water.
